One Hundred Marbled Papers, Christopher Shaw
Shaw, Christopher. One Hundred Marbled Papers. London: Choosing Keeping, 2019
Edition 2 of 2
Choosing Keeping has been collecting marbled papers over the course of 9 years from leading international marblers. Many sheets are sold to museums for their Decorative Arts collections. This volume was produced in an effort to assemble, conserve and highlight the work of leading international contemporary marblers as many artists do not keep their own archive. The book contains 100 individual sheets of original marbled paper in different colours and patterns.
Choosing Keeping commissioned fine bookbinder Christopher Shaw to produce the volume as an edition of 2. Edition 2 is bound in lime green quarter goatskin, marbled sides, spines and edge of leather tooled in gold.
Graduated from Guildford College of Technology in 1982 with a diploma in Bookbinding and Restoration. Shaw has been working in Wootton-by-Woodstock since 1982. Shaw has been awarded numerous bookbinding awards, notably he is the 4 time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenhill Award. His style can be described as a whimsical folklorish interpretation of traditional binding, with heaving and naive use of gold tooling.
