Choosing Keeping presents a special edition of 18 pearlescent and metallic shades of Gansai. This Japanese alter-ego to European watercolours is not dissimilar to gouache, and is made by a 100 year old paint maker in Japan. The paints can be used directly out of the box with a wet paintbrush - either thinly in translucent washes, or by layering for a bolder effect.
This specific assortment, a rainbow of shimmering shades, is a great candidate as an alternative to ink for calligraphy. The paint can be watered down to a thinner texture and loaded on to a dip pen. Quite opaque, it can be used on darker paper bases.
