Black Lamy Imporium 0.7mm Mechanical Pencil
An oddball amongst the Lamy family - the Imporium, formally known as the Persona, is the only non-German designed pen in the manufacturers' catalogue, ever. Indeed while in all other respects Lamy embodies the “Made in Germany” ethos to a T, it deviated from its usual path with this pen designed by Italian architect Mario Bellini and first produced in 1990 and discontinued in 2004.
The new re-edition has been pimped out technologically, both now galvanised and PVD coated (a high temperature coating method also used in the watch making industry) which insures great durability. Indeed this surface treatment while exhibiting a delicate matte satin finish will nevertheless be hardwearing and resistant to scratching. As with all Lamy products, Lamy has chosen a quality twist release Japanese pencil mechanism that is fail proof.
When looking at this pencil it is clear that Mario Bellini, who designed other products such as Olivetti Lettera typewriters, was inspired by the art deco period. The ribbed guilloche pattern echoes classic deco designs such as the Chrysler building for example.
0.7mm pencils are a brilliant, versatile tool to both write with and draw with. This mechanical pencil would be an excellent addition to the desk of any sartorially elegant architect or designer.
