Orange Sailor Professional Gear 21k Fountain Pen
Three companies dominate Japanese fountain pen making, all established in the 1910's and 1920’s, and all motivated by their common desire to develop a superior Japanese counterpart to their Western competitors such as Waterman and Parker. Ironically, the latter companies have lost their once top dog positions in the 'fountain pen world', while Sailor, Pilot and Platinum today represent the Holy Trinity of excellence in writing utensils. The main and defining reason for this accolade is the fact that all three companies supervise their production from beginning to end within their very own factories. No subcontracting ensures total quality control, and private ownership protects their original vision and enthusiasm for pen making.
Introducing you to Sailor's Professional Gear - as the not-so-sublte name suggests, it is more bulky and operational over some of Sailor's more petite and historical models. Nevertheless the quality is there and you cannot fault the writing. 21K nibs is Sailor's style signifier - no one else makes them (most companies opt for 14k or 18k) and we have found this gold grade brings to the nib greater depth and complexity - the sense that this pen has been worn in for you, as if it has already lived, as if bequeathed by a rich uncle. Smoothness, spring and bounce are all adjectives which can be used to describe this superb nib type which promises excellent and generous ink flow. Highly recommended.
Available in Fine and Medium nibs sizes, both very enjoyable in their own repertoire - not a scratchy pin in sight.
