Brass Kaweco Lilliput Ballpoint Pen

£65.00

Choosing Keeping holds the largest range of Kaweco pens in the UK - indeed we have built a long-lasting friendship with the beloved Gutberlet family who run the company with so much brains and gusto. Kaweco is often mistaken for a Japanese brand - not so! - it is 100% German. Originally established in 1899 in Heidelberg (also home of Lamy), the company was eventually renamed Kaweco as its owners namesake, Henrich Koch and Rudolph Weber - KOch, WEber and COmpany. Here pictured, an advertisement from 1911 which declares, ‘stocked in every best stationery store’ - still the case!

This extra-compact model, the Liliput - named for the island nation of miniature humans visited in Gulliver's Travels (Jonathan Swift, 1726) - was first issued in 1910, but went through several changes before being re-released in 2011. It is the smallest Kaweco model available; indeed, this retractable ballpoint pen is a mere 9.8cm long, with a diameter of only 0.95cm! It remains one of the smallest models, across brands, to take short standard cartridge refills. The Liliput ballpoint pen is available in retractable and capped models: brass (in smooth or wavy) and copper in both styles, aluminium (in silver or black) in retractable only, and stainless steel and fireblue torched stainless steel in capped only. A matching fountain pen is also available.

The brass can be left to tarnish and oxidise for a beautiful aged patina. Alternatively, it can be kept looking jewel-like by simply giving it a polish once in a while. For this purpose, we recommend 'Autosol Metal Polish'.

Slip-on clip is optional and can be purchased separately here
