French Anis de Flavigny bonbons, 90g box
£8.00
Often seen in French petrol station shops, in the regional product aisle, this is a French culture classic, here sold in it's oldest and original packaging style depicting a love story between a shepherd and a shepherdess made since 1591 and still produced in France. Its' distinctive ingredient aniseed is a symbol for happiness and fertility and traditionally thus, they were handed out to newlyweds at weddings.
Consistent with our Christmas theme for 2024, A Rococo Christmas it may also be relevant to cite that one of Anis bonbons was Versailles' eponymous King Louis the XIV.
