Teasel Large Paperweight

£45.00

As shown in this stain glass image, thistles were once used extensively in the textile industry. Since the middle ages, these were wired onto wooden crucifix shaped frames used to comb through, fluff and clean woolen fabrics. Later, with industrialisation, the individual frames were mounted onto larger drums into a 'teasel gig'.

In the end teasel gigs were replaced by metal ones and n
ow teasels can been relegated to simply being beautiful and can be admired in this seemless and crystal clear paperweight.
